Cut around the stem of the chilli. Make another cut to open the chilli from stem to tip. Carefully remove the core and seeds.

Trim the stem end of the skin to form two lobes and the tip end to form a point, thus producing a heart shape as in the picture.

With the tip of the knife, make a hole in the spathe and insert the core and seeds to create the anthurium spike.

Type 1
- Select a fresh, medium sized chilli.
- With the carving knife, make cuts from the stem end towards the tip to form three pointed petals of the desired length.
- Carefully pull the tip of the chilli away, leaving the core and seeds as the pistil of the flower.
Type 2
- Select fresh, medium sized chillies.
- With the carving knife, make cuts from the stem end towards the tip all around the chilli to produce many pointed petals of the desired length.
- Carefully pull the tip of the chilli away, leaving the core and seeds.
- The chilli flower may be soaked in very cold water to make the petals spread.
